If you’re learning Arabic and want to practise outside of the classroom, this is the blog for you.
At ALS, we agree that practising Arabic outside of lessons is important. However, there are some key things to consider to ensure that these extracurricular activities don’t negatively impact your overall learning. Keep reading for our top tips.
Why Practise Between Lessons?
Whether you’re starting Arabic from scratch or already have some basic knowledge, practising outside of lessons is a great way to improve your skills.
Learning outside of lessons can help students to:
- Build confidence
- Improve fluency and memory
- Practice lesson content
- Start interacting with native speakers
- Pick up skills faster
Taking the time to put new skills into action is a great way to strengthen your chance of success when taking a language course. This is particularly beneficial for Arabic study as some elements of the curriculum can be complex for some to master.
Tips for Practising Arabic When Learning the Language
When you study with Arabic Language Solutions, we encourage students to practise what they have learnt outside of lessons. However, this should always involve reliable Arabic resources so that misunderstanding and bad habits don’t become issues.
Our advice is as follows:
Speak Out Loud When Possible
If you are learning Arabic in a larger group, it can be daunting to test your new skills in the classroom. That’s why speaking out loud even in private is recommended to build confidence. At ALS, we overcome this problem by having a choice of smaller sessions or one-to-one learning as options.
Practice all Forms of Arabic
Spend plenty of time reading, writing, speaking and listening. Taking a varied approach to study is a great way to ensure all Arabic skills are developing at the same time.
Interact With Resources That Match Your Level
Something else to consider when practising Arabic outside of lessons is to only interact with resources that match your current skill level. If you are choosing resources that are outside of your knowledge set, this can negatively impact learning and confidence. If you’re unsure of what would be best for you to use, always ask your tutor to make some recommendations.
Review Lesson Content
A great place to start is by revisiting content from lessons. This not only ensures you’re able to succeed in class, but helps with our previous point. Reinforcing past learning is a great way to build a solid foundation of Arabic skills that allow for more complex study to be successful in the future.
Note Down Questions
Finally, we always recommend that students make a note of questions when interacting with Arabic material outside of lessons. Your tutor will be able to transfer any questions to ensure you don’t end up learning something incorrectly.
