What’s Covered in the ALS Pre-Intermediate Arabic Course?
As is the case with our other levels of study, pre-intermediate study is designed to build on existing skills by exposing students to a range of topics. Additionally, this course has a focus on improving spoken Arabic in the form of conversing fluently.
Term One
The study begins with a focus on strengthening grammar skills, which continues through terms two and three. The themes cover subject pronouns, plural patterns, feminine versus masculine, and verb forms. Each of these themes is designed to build on basic-level Arabic by helping students to use the language in more complex ways.
To ensure this covers a range of useful topics, subjects in this term include areas and regions, university experience, extended family, food in the Arabic world, plus weather and cities. The topics themselves are more advanced than those included in our beginner courses, which is intended to improve overall confidence both in lessons and during self-study.
Term Two
The second term is all about learning how to communicate about life events and choices. This is significant as it helps students grasp the correct use of different tenses and tests their understanding of sentence structures.
Included topics are social lives, major life events and milestones, plus making life choices.
Encouraging students to feel comfortable talking about themselves is essential for unlocking more advanced communication skills. These topics also support important skills such as job applications, conversing with native speakers, and networking.
By mastering this blend, pupils should feel confident in presenting themselves in a range of scenarios spanning professional and personal settings.
Term Three
Our pre-intermediate level course finishes with a focus on topics including relationships and feelings, making decisions, and living abroad. Each of these areas has been selected as they require an advanced use of Arabic to effectively communicate both factual information and personal feelings. The intention of ending the study at this point is that students either finish their Arabic studies with a stronger ability to talk using different tenses or that they enrol on our intermediate course.
The grammar themes included in this term are mastering comparative, conditional, subjunctive, and jussive skills. Verb forms are also included as this is essential for being able to effectively describe situations.
